1. Basic principle of fusion splicing
The welding principle of the fusion splicer is relatively simple. Firstly, the fusion splicer should find the core of the optical fiber correctly and align it accurately, and then melt the fiber and then push it through the high voltage discharge arc between the electrodes.

2. The principle of splice loss estimation
The estimation of the splice loss is calculated based on the misalignment, deformation, end face cutting angle, and whether bubble exists. The real loss is still measured by dedicated optical meter such as a light source, optical power meter or OTDR.

3. Matters you need pay attention to when operating the fusion splicer
◆ Do not use Off-regulation or unstable power supplier to the fusion splicer
◆ Do not use any solvent or liquid to clean the machine or rubber pressure pad in the cutter
◆ Please use related accessories for the fusion splicer
◆ Please follow the instructions strictly.
◆ If there is any abnormality in the machine, please contact the repair center at the first time.

Description:
Pure alcohol refers to the one with purity of 99% or more.
The cutted fiber can't be touched by anything.
The cutting length depends on the fixture, cutter and user requirements
When placing the fiber into the V-groove, it should be as close as possible to the electrode.
The windshield, pressure plate, etc. of the fusion splicer should be lightly closed

4. Routine maintenance
(1) Examination
In order to ensure the normal operation of the machine, a comprehensive inspection is required at regular intervals. (Press the key to enter the menu, select each item under “Maintenance” and follow the on-screen instructions)

(2) Electrode maintenance
Before using the fusion splicer, check the electrode for any contamination, wear and tear or damage. Remove dust or other particles from the electrode. Under normal use, the electrode can be used repeatedly for more than 1000 times.
Turn off the power, loosen the screw of the combiner, and take out the electrode.
Don't let the tip of the electrode touch anything.
Follow the instructions on the instructions to clean the electrode.
If one of the following conditions exists, the electrode must be replaced, otherwise it may cause a malfunction.
Electrode bending
The tip of the electrode has been grinded into a circle
Abnormal noise or arc during discharge

(3) Cleaning objective and reflector
If the objective lens is contaminated and damaged, it may cause the machine to be inoperable or loss incorrectly. If this happens, we should check if objective and reflector already been damaged and then clean it.
Turn off the power and remove the electrode
Clean the objective lens and mirror surface with a high quality cotton swab with pure alcohol. Be careful not to scratch the mirror surface.
Note: Mirrors are consumable material. After a long time of use, due to the discharge of the arc, a misty substance may form on the surface of the mirror. In this case, the mirror needs to be replaced.
(4) Clean V-groove and fiber presser foot

If there is dust or dirt on the V-shaped groove or the fiber presser foot, the fiber will be deflected during the welding process, resulting in an increase in the loss of the fiber or the inability to connect.
Turn off the power and supply a section of fiber
Keep the fiber at a 45-degree angle and use the cut end to rub back and forth along the groove of the V-groove to smooth it.
Clean the fiber presser foot with a cotton swab dipped in pure alcohol.
